Temporary, 8-12 weeks
35 hours per week (28 hours considered)
£17.94 per hour plus £2.17 holiday pay
Hybrid working, London (1 day per week in the office on Wednesdays)

Charity People are working with a youth-focused charity who require an experienced Safeguarding Officer to join their team on a temporary basis for up to three months to cover some gaps in the team. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with strong safeguarding expertise who is confident making risk-based decisions, providing guidance to frontline teams, and managing safeguarding concerns.
Working closely with the charity’s frontline service and safeguarding colleagues, you will provide advice and direction on safeguarding matters involving children, young people and vulnerable adults. You will play a key role in ensuring safeguarding policies, procedures and statutory requirements are followed, helping to protect individuals and reduce risk.
You will support staff managing safeguarding disclosures and concerns, assess risk, make timely decisions, and take the lead on referrals to external agencies where appropriate. The role also involves maintaining accurate records on the database.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide safeguarding advice, guidance and support to frontline staff dealing with safeguarding concerns
- Assess risk and make timely, informed safeguarding decisions
- Manage referrals to statutory agencies, including social care, police, and other relevant organisations
- Ensure safeguarding records, referrals and case notes are completed accurately
- Support colleagues to develop their safeguarding knowledge, confidence, and practice
You will bring:
- Significant experience providing safeguarding advice and support relating to children, young people, and vulnerable adults
- Experience working in operational or frontline environments in safeguarding
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and guidance
- The ability to assess risk confidently and make sound decisions under pressure
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to manage difficult conversations and challenge practice appropriately
- Strong record-keeping and report-writing skills
