Chief Finance and Operating Officer – Full-time, permanent

Four days in the office (Finchley Central) and one day working from home

Salary: up to £150,000 per annum

Charity People have partnered with Magen David Adom UK, which is entering an exciting new phase of growth and impact.

MDA UK is a top 500 charity (by voluntary income) with a clear mission, strong relationships and high expectations of itself. The organisation is growing in income, activity, stature and complexity, a positive reflection of the strength of the charity, the commitment of its supporters and the importance of its work. This growth, from £4m in 2016 to £9m in 2026, brings a responsibility to ensure financial leadership, governance, controls and delivery disciplines are strong enough for the next stage of MDA UK's development.

We are seeking an exceptional Chief Finance and Operating Officer to provide strategic financial leadership, strengthen governance and help shape the future of this ambitious charity.

This is a highly strategic yet hands-on finance and operational role, supporting the organisation through its continued growth as it scales up using the EOS model.  Due to the size and structure of the organisation, applicants must have recent hands-on operational finance experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector.

Reporting directly to a forward-thinking, visionary Chief Executive and sitting on the Executive Leadership Team, this newly created role offers the opportunity to influence strategic decision-making while ensuring strong financial stewardship, operational excellence and organisational resilience.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activity.
  • Hands on finance role, managing a bookkeeper and Operations Manager.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to the CEO, Board and Finance Committee.
  • Ensure effective governance, risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee restricted funds, donor-funded programmes and financial controls.
  • Lead and develop finance, operations and HR oversight functions.
  • Lead and enable organisational change and continuous improvement, including digital transformation and the effective use of technology, data, analytics and AI to improve efficiency, decision-making, impact and fundraising.

Person Specification

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or equivalent senior finance experience.
  • Proven senior finance leadership experience within a charity, not-for-profit or purpose-led organisation.
  • Strong understanding of governance, risk management and compliance.
  • Experience managing complex funding streams, grants or restricted funds.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and trustees.

Why Join Magen David Adom UK?

  • Join a respected and growing charity with a significant national and international impact. MDA is the second most trusted name in Israel
  • Play a key role in shaping the organisation's next phase of growth.
  • Work closely with an ambitious Executive Team and engaged Board.
  • Lead meaningful organisational improvement and transformation initiatives.
  • Make a lasting contribution to a mission that changes lives.

Role closing: 26th October 2026
First-stage interviews: w/c 2nd November 2026
Second-stage interviews: w/c 9th November 2026
